2012 Candidate Classes

TEACHER CANDIDATE CLASSES & Exams for Units 2, 3 & 5.

Location: Portland State University, Portland, Oregon . (Broadway Residence).
Dates: Sunday 22nd July to Sunday 5th August. 2012

Teaching Certificate Part 1: Unit 2 (Dance) and Unit 3 (Teaching)


Course dates: Unit 2 will run from Sunday pm. 22nd July (registration & orientation) to Friday 27th July with the examination at the end of the course.
Unit 3 will run from Friday 27th July to Saturday 4th August with the examination on
Friday 3rd August (Saturday 4th if necessary)

Preparation: Unit 2 has a set of prescribed dances. Candidates should obtain full copies of those and be familiar with them prior to the Unit 2 course. The publication Teacher Candidate Unit 2 Prescribed Dances is available from TACBooks as well as from the Society in Edinburgh.

Preparation for Unit 3: If possible, candidates should practice teaching with their local groups. Look at the RSCDS website under Learn at Forms and Teaching Certificate. This contains all exam forms and supporting information which can be downloaded. Also the Syllabus and Manual Amends.


Teaching Certificate Part 2: Unit 5 (teaching)


Course dates: Unit 5 will run from Sunday pm. 22nd July to Thursday 2nd August, with the examination at the end of the course.
Tutor Unit 5: Keith Bark (Toronto) Musician Unit 5: Lisa Scott (Portland, Oregon)

Preparation: For those enrolling in the Unit 5 course, at TAC Summer School 2012, the Record of Teaching Practice (Unit 4) and accompanying papers are due in at the Society Headquarters in Edinburgh by 31st January 2012 (six months prior to the Unit 5 exam). Forms and supporting information (Including information on Unit 1 and Unit 4) may be found on the Society web-site. http://www.rscds.org under Learn and Teaching Certificate. All exam forms and supporting information can be downloaded, as well as the Syllabus & Manual Amends.

 

TAC Course Costs: The cost for the full two week course is Can$1685 when sharing a room.  Single rooms cost $350 more ie Can$2035 for the two week course.  If sharing, a $200 down-payment is required at the time of the Course application, for a single room.  the deposit is higher.  The balance is due by June 1, 2012.  There is either a Word or PDF version of the application form.

 

RSCDS Exam Fees: are in addition to the Course fees and are paid directly to the RSCDS at HQ when you send in the various application forms. At this time they are set at £15 GB per unit, with a concessionary rate of £12 per unit for those candidates under age 21 and up to age 25 for students in full time education at the time of sitting the course. However the fee amounts need to be checked on the RSCDS web-site.

Application Dates: Course application forms can be downloaded in either Word or PDF format.
Unit 2 & 3: TAC Course application to be in to the TAC Exam Coordinator by April 1st 2012 accompanied by a $200 down-payment.
RSCDS Exam forms and fees to be sent into the Society HQ in Edinburgh by 30th April 2012.
Unit 4 & 5: TAC Unit 5 Course application to be with the TAC Exam Coordinator by December 1st 2011 accompanied by a $200 down-payment.
