Class Levels
Class Levels
Basic Technique
The class is designed for dancers ( about 1-3 years) who want to improve their knowledge and execution of the basic steps and formations and be introduced to some of the more advanced formations. This class will focus on footwork, covering, handling, and phrasing with attention given to the transitions between formations.
Intermediate Technique
This class is designed for intermediate dancers (4 or more years) with a solid understanding of basic steps and formations who want to improve their execution. Teaching will focus on accuracy of footwork, good handing, teamwork, the future development of phrasing, and more advanced formations.
Advanced
(There are 3 choices at the Advanced level, dancers will be encouraged to pick a first and second choice in case their first choice class is full)
Technique: Class designed for advanced dancers who can consistently execute all steps and formations to a very high standard of accuracy showing excellent phrasing, handing, and covering. Dancers are capable of executing any dance from any position within the set from verbal instructions only. Dancers will be expected to able to dance for the duration of this class. If injured or unable to sustain a full class, dancers should consider the experienced class.
Experienced Dancing: Class designed for dancers who have enjoyed a long career of dancing and possess the same knowledge and skill level of the advanced technique class. Dancers in this class desire the challenge presented by advanced level dances but are not physically able and/or prepared to sustain the high level of stamina required throughout the entire period of the advanced technique class. With a reduced focus on footwork and physical demand, dancers are capable of executing any dance without inhibiting the set and showing excellent phrasing, handing, covering, and teamwork.
High Energy Technique: This class will be suitable for dancers who are capable of dancing at a very high standard of accuracy while sustaining a high level of performance. Dancers will be expected to meet the challenge of a physically demanding class throughout the entire duration of the class.
Please be prepared to be reassigned to another class level. The teachers and Committee may decide move dancers to a more appropriate level on occasion to ensure the best possible learning environment for all participants. Their decision is final. Be conservative in your estimate of your abilities, since the class levels at summer school are often at a higher level than in many local groups and can vary from year to year.
